1919 – 2000 ! Mumbai, India.
Majrooh Sultanpuri was born on 01 Oct 1919 Sultanpur, India. His real name was Asrar Hasan Khan. After completion of his basic education in Urdu, Persian and Arabic, he went to Aligarh and then moved to Mumbai, where he settled and wrote for films. Soon Majrooh had his own identity and began the journey that landed him in Mumbai. He wrote popular songs for many films and received a lot of awards for his poetic contribution to ghazals. He was the first lyricist to be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He was also the recipient of the Ghalib Award and the Iqbal Prize. He died on 24 May 2000 in Mumbai, India.
