Ibn-e-Insha (Urdu: شیر مُحمّد خان ) was born on 15 June 1927 in Phillaur tehsil of Jalandhar District, Punjab, India. His father hailed from Rajasthan. His real name was Sher Muhammad Khan (Urdu: اِبنِ اِنشا ). Ibn-e-Insha was an eminent Pakistani Leftist Urdu poet, and columnist. Along with his poetry, he was regarded as one of the best humorists of Urdu. He known for his ghazal “kal chaudhanvi ki raat thi, shab bhar raha charcha tera”. Insha spent much of his time in Karachi. He died of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on 11January 1978 in London and was buried in Karachi.
